The design team facilitator will lead a two- to six-week design program in urban design, public art and community planning with a team of 20 young people ages 14 to 19 from Chicago public high schools. The facilitator will guide the team through a real-world design project using design thinking processes and community-engaged design practices.
Team facilitators may apply for the full six week program or a two week project focused on a special skill supporting the overall design project, and could include graphic design, industrial design, landscape, sustainability, etc. Smaller scope projects will be developed with the program manager and team of facilitators to align with summer program goals.
The ideal design studio facilitator will be able to adapt our curriculum plan and program trajectory to fit the specific moment in the studio, and anticipate and respond to unexpected changes and opportunities. Outside the design studio, facilitator responsibilities may include: recruiting team members, curriculum development and adaptation, studio prep, youth assessments, program evaluations, data entry.
Seeking candidates with experience in:
– Project management, studio leadership, or arts education
– Architecture, urban planning, and public art
– Working with young people ages 14 to 19
– Addressing interpersonal problems in a potentially stressful environment.
– Trauma-informed care and restorative justice practices – helpful but not required.
Requirements: Must be able to manage a team of teenagers for 4 hours unassisted. Must be 25 years old at the start of the program. Must complete mandatory background check. Job hours include prep and planning time. Territory will provide immersive training with our design team, and instructors will participate in curriculum planning.
Cover letter should be one paragraph. Describe a specific experience you had working with teenagers. Describe what you liked, what you learned, and what you would do differently the next time. Hours: Part-time, 25 hours/week
